Well, I did it. It's been a while in planning, but I put in my 30 day notice in Grandview. There's lots of good reasons to leave, but I'm sad to be going (OK-not that sad, but still...) I went out there to help turn around the practice, and it didn't work out. It hasn't been a lack of doing the dentistry, either. I've been working my fingers to the bone, but I just haven't been able to get paid for it. Collection rate has been 60-odd percent. And that's on top of the ridiculous write offs. Crap. But, I still feel like I'm abaondoning ship. Granted, that office may not be sinking, but it sure is taking on a lot of water. I am SUPER PUMPED about this new job, though! It'll be a closer drive to the new house (wherever that may be) and it should be a much better opportunity. Can't wait! :-) Current Location: Home Current Mood: rejuvenated Current Music: The Decemberists

OK-I know there are folks out there with weird hobbies. Like making medieval armor, for instance. My house is double pane and I'm usually not one to throw stones.
And, I know there are folks out there with weird fetishes. This is the INTERNET-you can't swing a dead cat without running into an ad for a site offering INCONTINENT ASIAN SHE-MALE DOMINATRIXES WITH LARGE AND HAIRY FEET WHO SMOKE or some such oddness. And there's enough people out there paying for this shit that there's like 20 sites for this oddball fetish. I get that.
But seriously-what's with all the furries?
Is it an inability to relate to their fellow humans? Were these the outcast kids that not even the nerds would hang out with? Did they lose their virginity in a farmyard, or did they find creative uses for veal-flavored body paint? Or is this a result of their first sexual urgings being brought on by Bugs Bunny in drag?
I'm really stumped here.
And I know it's one thing to be turned on by an animal (icky though the thought may be), but entirely another thing to believe, deep down inside, that you're an animal trapped in human's body.
A couple of weeks ago I listened to a radio program where a guy being interviewed was convinced he was a shire draft horse trapped in a human form. He believed he could speak to horses, that his boss was actually his "owner" in a sense, and could describe what physical features he found attractive in mares (!).
To me-it seems a sense of not being able to relate to humans, coupled with either early childhood memories of cartoons or beng able to relate to animals better because animals don't judge them.
Oh-and self-delusion. A serious dose of self-delusion.
I was reading a LJ the other day, and the person was purporting to be a "Fae" animal. Basically, a cat with butterfly wings.
And there's entire communities of these folks out there! Chat rooms and the like where people log on and pretend they're really faeries or dragons or wolves trapped in human form or some such thing.
How far off the deep end are we letting things get here, folks?
I guess, in the end no one's getting blown to Allah or anything, so I'm not seeing any harm. But damn, there's a lot of weirdness out there in fantasyland. I don't get it.

Ahh-a subject near and dear to my heart. I see groups like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpepojqHHkcand I think, "Gee-they're doing exactly what I want to be doing!" But of course, they aren't. Basically, they're a troupe that does medieval faires and reenactments. You can see more of them here: http://www.orderofthecrown.com/index.htmlBut, I do have to give them credit for certain points: 1) Damn-they look good. 2) They're all from the same time period 3) They're all wearing real armor 4) They use rebated steel 5) And damn-they look like they're really hitting each other! Of course, the SCA has an advantage over them by: 1) Lots of folks in the SCA 2) Safer combat system But, I have to think that there has got to be a middle ground somewhere. The SCA will never be a LH type organization, I know. We had a brief shining moment with tournament societies, but I haven't seen as much from them-at least around here. And I'll never quit the SCA, because all of my friends are there and I get a lot out of it. So, maybe I sould revise the tournament company idea again. Hmmm.
